I felt very defeated in that beginner course though.

Beautiful Losers+SUHA=films i can’t wait to see!

Beautiful Losers film trailer from beautifullosersfilm on Vimeo.

Beautiful Losers celebrates the spirit behind one of the most influential cultural movements of a generation. In the early 1990’s a loose-knit group of likeminded outsiders found common ground at a little NYC storefront gallery. Rooted in the DIY (do-it-yourself) subcultures of skateboarding, surf, punk, hip hop & graffiti, they made art that reflected the lifestyles they led. Developing their craft with almost no influence from the “establishment” art world, this group, and the subcultures they sprang from, have now become a movement that has been transforming pop culture. Starring a selection of artists who are considered leaders within this culture, Beautiful Losers focuses on the telling of personal stories…speaking to themes of what happens when the outside becomes “in” as it explores the creative ethos connecting these artists and today’s youth.

SUHA (TEASER) from ROBBY REIS on Vimeo.

SUHA is a short film by ROBBY REIS, which documents the life of a young graffiti writer as she marks her way through Montreal’s graffiti art sub-culture. SUHA’s diaristic accounts unfold through her self-discovering narration which is delivered as a soliloquy unbeknown to her.

19 days later…Happy New Year!

It’s a new year!
Ten years since the new minimum dawned on us.
I’m sticking to The Cult of Done Manifesto for this years dreams, ideas and goals.

Dear Members of the Cult of Done,

I present to you a manifesto of done. This was written in collaboration with Kio Stark in 20 minutes because we only had 20 minutes to get it done.

The Cult of Done Manifesto

1. There are three states of being. Not knowing, action and completion.
2. Accept that everything is a draft. It helps to get it done.
3. There is no editing stage.
4. Pretending you know what you’re doing is almost the same as knowing what you are doing, so just accept that you know what you’re doing even if you don’t and do it.
5. Banish procrastination. If you wait more than a week to get an idea done, abandon it.
6. The point of being done is not to finish but to get other things done.
7. Once you’re done you can throw it away.
8. Laugh at perfection. It’s boring and keeps you from being done.
9. People without dirty hands are wrong. Doing something makes you right.
10. Failure counts as done. So do mistakes.
11. Destruction is a variant of done.
12. If you have an idea and publish it on the internet, that counts as a ghost of done.
13. Done is the engine of more.

When I first read that I was extremely excited because it is about ACTION
every year up till 2010 was about planning and theory
put it to action and let the work do the talking

I have an urge to be self generative in my work
from concept to creation
i am fully aware of the interconnection of it all
but that doesn’t mean i can’t experiment on my own with audio and sound

my girlfriend bought me a great little piece of hardware for Christmas
KORG nanoKEY
 KORG nanoKEY

I’ve been playing around with VST’s(wiki article)
and messing with Ableton and FL
but the winner in my book is
AudioMulch
it’s a really great program and tons of mash up artist use it

i’d like to focus on loops
and being able to control audio live and without much hassle
AM is perfect for that so far!

so for the new year here are some goals!

*get a car
-jeep cherokee
*use my tax refund wisely
-pay down credit cards
-start a savings account
*get on top of my student loans
-consolidate
*Cintiq 21UX
-new or used
*Nikon SLR
-new or used
*intern with great people
*Put out a collection of my panoramas
-late summer
*have a new place by late fall
*dvd of my work
-this fall!
-hopefully right in the city
*get signed on staff in the creative industry
*buy a projector

We are but 19 days into the new year with 346 days left to make it all happen!
stay tuned!

Together is always better!

So one of the best facts of my life is that my girlfriend creates with her hands as well!
She is currently in her third year at SVA majoring in traditional animation.

My favorite creative duo is Kelly Meador + Daniel Elwing also known as
IMPACTIST
I’ve loved their work since first year at art school and I’m a sucker for creative couples!
Science of Sleep directed by Gondry shows my ideal situation of blending the personal and professional
Stéphane Miroux + Stéphanie

So my Courtney and Erick formed C+CK!
everything is created with teamwork!
from concept to completion WE make things!

Nick Campbell is a guy with much talent and sees the bigger picture of everything. He started Five Second Projects to enable people to make their reel thicker! C+CK celebrated their unity by making something for these projects! It happened within the course of a few days!

We got honorable mention and that rocketed our exposure and we’re going to keep moving on that kinetic energy.
Stay tuned for a site launch which will include many of our creations from our hands!

Look to Nature-a closer look!

I worked on a new project this week!
Until I figure out the details of why the video I uploaded doesn’t show
I am not allowed to show it yet
with that said
i think they should have stuck with having users upload a video via vimeo
oh well.

Not sure exactly how I stumbled on challenge your world but it’s a pretty interesting concept
it was a Wednesday night when i did find it though
and decided to go head on into making something for it
I gotta say its a great thing to say something
and then commit to it
from start to finish

this project consisted of this work flow
Livebrush+PS–>Ae

Livebrush is a nice little application that I used to create all the elements in this piece.
here’s a intro videos for it.

what i like about the software is that for 10 bucks you get a whole lot
and through the forums
features can be suggested and requested
the creator of the software post regularly and informs the community
on what he will be working towards for the next update
i can’t wait for it to do everything i want it to do.

here are some frames i grabbed from the piece

Coming soon!

Empire Of The Sun.

Recently i’ve been completely drawn into the work of EOTS
This duo has produced some amazing sounds
and on top of that
really great music videos
the costumes, locations and special effects are all just right
disregarding the youtube comment rants
it’s honestly refreshing to see time and effort put into the visual side of their work
it’s apart of them
and in many ways shapes them
i can easily see some short form work built off of it
hmmmm

check their first video out

and the making of

their latest video

i really am feeling without you because of the limited location and props
and yet
not a limited visual experience
